SVG file not displaying correctly

Postby theasiandynasty » Tue May 26, 2015 12:23 pm

I'm trying to display an svg file on my website. As of now I am having little success. When I open up the svg file in Inkscape, I see everything. When I open it in any web browser, it only displays certain objects. Is the Inkscape's fault? The browser''s fault? My fault?

Here is what I'm talking about:

I've also tried this in both Mac and Windows, if that is relevant. It has the same results. But, I guess I still can use the PNG format if all else fails.

Hello

I've done a quick try, and I'm pretty sure that the problem is that you have "flowed text" instead of "text" elements. To see what I say, in Inkscape select one of those texts that doesn't appear and you will see in the bottom bar a message saying "flowed text".
In order to see in a web browser, just convert those "flowed" text to "text" objects. There is an option in the Text menu on Inkscape.... well also it could be a problem with the font, but I doubt it. If you also could share your file, I could clear all the doubts.

The head pictures, may appear or not depending if those images are embedded in your file, or are just linked. If they are linked, I think it's better they are in the same directory where the sVG file is, or in a sub directory of that.

mmm... Do you want that also the grid appear in your website??
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
2.- Please check here:

3.- If you manage to solve your problem, please post here your solution.

No. Just using the grid and guides as...well, guides.

that you have "flowed text" instead of "text" elements

Yes, that is the problem. I didn't realize that, thank you. I did try to convert flowed text to regular text, but the spacing gets all off.

After testing the SVG embedded in an actual website, I think I'll just convert it to a very dense PNG. The fonts on some machines just show up as a serif font, probably because they don't have the font installed. Thanks for the help anyway, and I'll take the flowed text into consideration next time I make something in Inkscape.

Wait, do I mark my post [Solved] now? I don't see any other posts in this category that do this.

Yikes.

PNG are so rasterday... SVG are the new and vexciting.

I'd fix the spacing and save the working copy, then convert the fixed text as paths for publishing to web.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Off topic:
There was a request on doing so, however there is no built in button here that would do the job; starting post's titles need to be edited. Started editing old posts from the start but there are still hundreds to be managed.
