I've used 'white dots' over yellow background and put a red object over part of this. However, the white dots show through even when the red is 100% opacity. Is there a way to completely overlay?

Make sure that also the fill color's alpha value is at its maximum value, and that the red object isn't in a group or layer that has its opacity reduced.
