weird display after rotating line segment

Postby brynn » Wed Sep 16, 2009 9:25 am

Hi Friends,
I guess I haven't used Inkscape in a while, and I had forgotten how bugs seems to just materialize right before my eyes -- arggghhh!

Ok, this time, I'm trying to Rotate a Line Segment, using the Rotate tab of the Transformations dialog. Please see screen shot below. The red segment has been duplicated, and I want to rotate it so that when I move it laterally, the end nodes meet so that the path can become closed.

Next, with the red segment still highlighted, I bring out the Rotate tab of the Transforms dialog. Enter 45 degrees, click Apply. And here's what I see next:

Well, the red segment hasn't been rotated enough to be able to close the diamond path, after I move it over. But you can see that the nodes have actually rotated a little bit too far.

How weird is that?! :o

In this next shot, you can see that I've highlighted all the nodes, in order to try to drag the segment. While I've dragged the nodes directly to the right (not any higher or lower), the red segment moved downward and to the right!!

I did search Launchpad, and didn't find anything similar. But lately I'm beginning to think my search skills could use improving, so maybe this has been reported and I just couldn't find it. Ok, and this is v 0.46, the last stable release. I know that 0.47 will be released before too long. But I thought I'd report this weirdness anyway

Once I figure out the right amount to rotate, how will I get the segment to the right place? I do know that I can probably forget about the Transform dialog, and just use the rotation handles. But I was hoping for a little more precision, that the dialog could accomplish. Any ideas :?: (I could put up some SVGs, if anyone wants to investigate, lmk ;) )

And thanks again, as always, your help is much appreciated :D
