There are more than one gradient and it seems that Inkscape can't do more than only one gradient.

But it can definitely do more than one object 
Create the green rectangle and then on top of it the white highlight. You can find many tutorials how to create such a button, try searching for aqua button tutorial. Generally speaking it doesn't matter which application the tutorial is for, they all use either layers or objects, but I think you can find one for Inkscape too.

Hi franziski,
I made a quick attempt at a similar button as your example, download the svg and you can check how i made it.
I used the font "Sans" so if might not look the same when you open the svg if you don't have that font.
This button could of course been simplified more but i tested as i went along.
You can skip the bottom layer and use a gradient outline on the next layer instead.
