Re-do key shortcut in Edit menu in v 0.48.1

Postby brynn » Tue Aug 16, 2011 7:43 pm

Hi Friends,
While working on a master list of keyboard use/mapping in Inkscape, I've just come across an issue in the Edit menu in 0.48.1. The Edit menu shows the shortcut as Shift + Ctrl + Z. In fact, Ctrl + Y activates a re-do. The default.xml file does show the correct keyboard shortcut.

I searched at Launchpad, but did not see it reported. ~suv, would you like me to file a report, or is this issue otherwise already known?

Thanks :D

Ok wait.
Default.xml shows 2 shortcuts each for Undo and Redo.

Undo: Ctrl + Z and Shift + Ctrl + Y

Redo: Ctrl + Y and Shift + Ctrl + Z

Ok, so all of these work, but I don't understand why they should need 2 shortcuts each.

So maybe this is one place where a shortcut can be freed up for other use? (Part of the purpose of my list-making.)

Because some other programs use one shortcut and some the other, and since inkscape users with different backgrounds might be used to using either one, they put both in. (My best guess).
But if it bothers you, you can delete the one you don't like, or reassign it to some other command... Have you tried that, and it did not work? Or are you talking about making the change for everyone?
Your mind is what you think it is.

Yes. I'm working on a master list of sorts, and discussing it here: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=9950 It's mostly me talking to myself, because I usually figure out whatever problem I've run into.

Yes, I understand, that at least in Windows, Ctrl + z is Undo, and Ctrl + y is redo. So again, I solved my own problem, lol.

But aside from my wish for the Shift key to disable node snapping, there are (apparently) several issues where there are conflicts with keyboard shortcuts, as well as a desire for new ones, for new features. So the developers need a detailed listing of existing shortcuts to facilitate their discussion about these things. And since I have plenty of time, and enough motivation, and since it was me asking about Shift and snapping in the first place, I volunteered. It would be easier if I actually used keyboard shortcuts very much, lol. But I'm slogging through :D
