Hello everyone and thanks in advance for your help.
I'm trying to export to PNG (at high dpi, I was actually aiming for 300) a huge composition with several objects comprised of thousands of nodes, the problem is that Inkscape just crashes everytime I launch the exporting process.
I'm using Inkscape 0.48.2, Windows 7, 8 Gb of RAM an i5 2500k processor and a 560 Ti graphic card.
I will attach the file that's causing me troubles as well (I just hope that you guys will be able to open it correctly without the gradients filters files, just let me know if it won't work and I'll upload those as well).

by the way, the gradients should look like this (although the image in the linked file is slightly different):

Are you able to export sucessfully at default DPI (90, I believe)?
You realize that changing the DPI in Export Bitmap dialog doesn't actually change the quality of the image -- instead, it changes the size of the image? So if it's already a large file, 300 DPI will make it huge. If you want to increase DPI in the way of improving quality of the image, you'd have to use a raster graphics app.
It sounds like you should have enough RAM to handle it. But if there are a lot of filters, it could still be affecting performance (and causing crash). I can't actually test, because I can't open RAR file. Even if I could though, I only have 4 gb RAM.

I can export up to 160 dpi without getting any crash (although it takes a while).

Really? I tried to export the same image at different dpi/size, the thing is that there's a lot of tiny details/speckles which just look better (as in, not pixellated around the edges) at higher dpi/size (if I'm stating the obvious please forgive me, I'm not that experienced to begin with).
If you want to increase DPI in the way of improving quality of the image, you'd have to use a raster graphics app.
Ok you lost me here, care to elaborate? I would really like to know something about this.
EDIT: Anyway, the guys at Launchpad are working on it and one of them managed to clean the original file a lil and succesfully export it at 300 dpi.

No, I'm sorry, I can't explain it. I'm actually quite confused by it. In raster programs, DPI changes the quality of the image, and not the size. And in other parts of Inkscape, DPI can change the quality and not the size. But for some reason, changing the DPI in the Export Bitmap dialog changes the size of the image, and has no effect on the quality.
It was probably crashing because changing the DPI to 300 was making the file so large.
Anyway, it sounds like you've successfully achieved your goal, so that's good.
