Making Business card Template
Making Business card Template
I followed the tutorial at http://goinkscape.com/create-a-business ... n-inkscape for making a business card template but when I printed it the business cards overlapped and were not within the boundries, the bottom cards overlapped the top cards and the left side overlapped the right side. Does anyone know what could be going wrong? I used Avery business cards to print it.
Re: Making Business card Template
Why don't you go to Avery's website and download the template specific to the Avery product that you are using?
(The other possibility is that your printer was set to shrink to fit instead of 100%.)

Re: Making Business card Template
Are you using the exact same card sizes as they used in the tut? It gets a little frustrating (for me) to do business cards in Inkscape, as there are so many sizes. I'd suggest first looking at the Avery packaging and ensure you are using those exact measurements vs what's in the tut.
To be honest, when I did mine, I had issues too, so ended up just setting the lines up according to the Avery package onto Inkscape, and I just duplicated a page of business cards, used the align tool to distribute equally, ensuring to leave a small 'gutter space' where the cards meet. I did a whole lot of printing onto reg paper first too! That worked best for me. You might need to chg your margins and I forget, but there might be header/footer space that causes overlapping, it's been too long since I did mine.

Yeah I checked the measurements to be sure they are the same. What do you mean by "setting the lines according to the Avery package? I was finally able to print them correctly from photoshop elements after I save it as a pdf file in Inkscape, but I would have preferred to print them directly from Inkscape.

What is your Inkscape version, minky? Each new version (currently 0.92.4) has fixed print issues on Windows lately. Maybe you need to choose to not use 'vector print'?

The best procedure is to open the template from avery in Word, and then import the svg from inkscape into it and resize if necessary then print from word

Re: Making Business card Template
I'm using an older version of inkscape, 0.48. I don't think it's a sizing issue druban, it just seems to print a bit off and not perfectly centered.
If I upgrade to the newest version of Inkscape, does it install over the old one or do I have to uninstall the old one firest?

If you're on Windows, please uninstall the old version first.
Inkscape will probably ask you to resize your document when you first open it (due to a change in handling document units). I expect it will be sized correctly for your purpose, no matter which option you select. In any case, save a backup, so you can switch options, if the first one you chose doesn't work as expected.

Also re Inkscape on Windows.
If you want to keep your older version, you could get the 7Z package of the current version, and not have to uninstall the old version. However, if you want to get the EXE or MSI package you must uninstall the old version first.
