Re: Creating a rubber stamp
Hmm... for some reason, when I select "intersection" after using calligraphy tool, my complete drawing disappears
Re: Creating a rubber stamp
I suspect this is a bug in Inkscape, I saw in various instances the drawing disappearing after a boolean operation, but I am not able to reproduce the steps. Usually I change the shapes a bit, maybe simplify them and then the boolean operation works.
I know I should be a good user, investigate it more and make a bug report but...

Re: Creating a rubber stamp
Okay, I think I should try it again later or wait for 0.46
Re: Creating a rubber stamp
There is a stamp in http://www.openclipart.org that I submitted a long time ago. It has been made in Inkscape 0.44.
http://openclipart.org/media/files/molumen/636
It has some more details, I'll sumbit here a mini tutorial on how I made it.

simple lesson ... i loved it
Re: Creating a rubber stamp
Hi,
I have a problem creating that stamp.
I managed to go to Union (not sure if I converted objects to paths right).
But I am not sure to do Intersection.
I added caligraphy, I click on Inttersection and NOTHING happens....
Do you have any clue what is wrong?
I attached my svg file, maybe this will help.

Re: Creating a rubber stamp
Gocha
It doesn't work for me either. I think there are a few missing steps in there somewhere.
One place I got hung up is when trying to complete the 'intersection' step, after turning the text into a path, it sees each letter as an object, (I tried grouping it, but got an error message to use only 2 paths), so I tried intersecting just one letter with the scribble I made, that didn't work because it deleted most of the letter, instead of just intersecting it. Maybe that has to do with the font I choose, not sure.
I'm sure there is a way to do this simply, it'll take a bit more playing with it to get it right. Maybe someone else can post an easier way.

Re: Creating a rubber stamp
I have find what makes the entire text disappear after Intersection. It's because when using the Calligraphic tool I have created two objects and they were not intersecting. So when using the union over 3 objects with two intersecting (the text and the first calligraphic object) and the third (the second calligraphic object) not intersecting with both the two former objects , the result is nil. This is because only the intersection of the three objects at once is kept.
To keep it simple do not stop when creating the calligraphic object unless you finished. This way only one calligraphic object is created. Then apply the intersection between the text and the calligraphic object.

Thanks nicubunu.
Re: Creating a rubber stamp
I just found this tutorial and found it great, really helped me.
I had initially the problem that when I did "intersection" nothing happened, just wanted to share my solution here:
I had to select the text I had in the circle (actually a rectangle in my case but that's of no importance) letter by letter, with the node tool , doing "union" one by one. I mean:
- select the first letter with the node tool
- shift-select the second letter (adding it to the selection)
- do Path -> Union (this turns the first two letters into one "object" or path)
- shift-select the third letter (adding it as a selection to the still selected previous two)
- do Path-Union (this adds the third letter to the former two, turning them all three into one object)
- repeat shift-selecting the remaining letters and doing after each selected letter Path -> Union.
After this, everything worked fine. Many thanks to the original poster.
