Can not save files with 0.48 in lab

Postby 1885 » Fri Aug 31, 2012 5:17 am

I use Inkscape 0.48 on windows 7 to teach computer graphics. We have a lab of 30 computers and my teacher account along with a few students can save files successfully. Windows 7 inkscape 0.48
they can:
save
save as

There are some students how can not save , save as, or save a copy.

Any ideas why this is happening or how we can fix this.

Thanks

What do you mean by can not save , save as, or save a copy.

The menus are greyed out ? invisible ? visible but not clickable ? Clickable but then a popup opens and when you click "Save" button there's an eror message saying "foo".

Can they run a portable version of inkscape (from a usb device for exemple) ? With which results ?

Is it a computer or a profile error ? (if you run inkscape on a faulty PC can you save ?)

Sounds strange anyway.

If they're using 0.48.2, there's a bug where the Save As dialog won't appear when called. Apparently this happens when the file has been previously saved to a root drive (such as C:\ or a flash drive). I'm not sure, but I think the bug does not appear in 0.48. So perhaps it's not the same thing as you're describing.

When we create a new file and try to save it with menus or keyboard commands it will not save.
When using a menu and choose "Save as" a dialog does not appear.

Unfortunately, some of your students seem to be affected by a known regression (bug) in the Windows port of Inkscape 0.48.2: See this comment in one of the many duplicate reports for a short list of known workarounds.
