Is there anyway to achieve a smooth line pen-like effect. If you have used manga studio then you might know what I'm talking about. It's like how their pens give a smooth line and looks very natural without sharp edges on the line. Is there a way to achieve a smooth effect like that?
and is there a way to stop the white space when you overlap the lines from the same stroke?
and sometimes there is just white space even when there is no overlap when I make a stroke is there a way to fix this?
Smooth line pen effect and not have white space on overlap
Re: Smooth line pen effect and not have white space on overlap
In the Fill and Stroke dialog, on the Fill tab, there are 2 roughly shield- or heart-shaped icons, one with a hole in it. You need to choose the one without a hole.

Re: Smooth line pen effect and not have white space on overlap
hmmm... I dont' really see it at all. I'll figure that out when I find it.
But actually I meant like the pencil tool. I use eclipse because it reminds me of a paintbrush-like look as well as the fact that it gives me that look I like from manga studio drawing tools.
However when i use the drawing tools to do strokes it creates spaces sometimes and also if I overlap the stroke on the same stroke then it also it also has white space.

As brynn says, it's the heart-shape without a hole that you need in order to get rid of the white spaces. Draw a line that has the white spaces, select the line (if it's not already selected), open the Fill and Stroke dialog (Shift+Ctrl+F) and click the heart-shape without a hole (fill-rule:nonzero). This should cause the white spaces to disappear.
You can set things up so that the tools automatically use this style (though you may not want to do this, as it will exacerbate the colouring problem that you mention in another post). Select a line for which you've fixed the white spaces as described above, then open Inkscape Properties (Shift-Ctrl-P), and on the Pencil page choose "This tool's own style" and click the "Take from selection" button. Do the same on the Pen and Calligraphy pages too. Now these three tools should all draw without white spaces.

I don't know why but for some reason my inkscape doesn't have the fill window or dialog. I don't know if it's supposed to be there or not by default. Either way this has fixed the overlapping issue but for some reason there is still gaps when just drawing in general like breaks. Maybe this is how it's supposed to be?

It's the first item in the Object menu > Fill and Stroke. In that dialog are 3 tabs -- Fill, Stroke Paint, and Stroke Style. On the Fill tab, the 2 heart-shaped icons are in the top, right corner. The one without a hole, that you want to click is the one on the right. Yes, it's there by default, and it's one of the most important dialogs in all of Inkscape! If you still can't find it, let me know and I'll make you a screen print image to show it.

What has fixed the issue? I thought you just said you couldn't find it.
Line breaks.....do you mean when you put the pen down on your tablet, and draw a line, that the line is not continuous? Are you using this pen tool ? Or this one ? I know that both icons are pens, and that can be confusing. But this one draws lines like a pen . While this one is for calligraphy . Or I guess I'm not sure how it works for tablets, maybe the tablet's pen only accesses this pen ?

Re: Smooth line pen effect and not have white space on overlap
Yeah I couldn't find it at first the fill dialog because for me when I opened my inkscape it wasn't there by default. But thanks to brynn and sas I have found it. I found the menu therefore now it's fixed. Thanks sas for the shortcut and for you mentioning where it's located now I'll be sure to remember. I'm using this one actually. This tool so far hasn't gotten me any breaks but that is probably because it hasn't been working for me. But thank god for the fill dialog that is so important for some reason by default my strokes were undefined, i don't know why this was the case for me but either way now the calligraphy tool works again thanks to you guys! But I don't think that has given me any line breaks. The pencil/freehand tool has though. By line breaks I mean exactly that but it doesn't happen with straighlines but more so with curve lines the curves sometimes has some break it in but not completely but seems as if someone took a piece out of it. and the line isn't completely filled with parts of it snipped off. like little triangles being snipped off.
