Why does "Save as" .dxf do nothing?
I can see it launches c:\Program Files\Inkscape\python\python.exe in a DOS window, but that window remains blank and doesn't proceed to anything else. I have to manually close this window (using the X) in order to get out of it. An empty .dxf file is created, too.
I don't think python itself is the problem, since that same python.exe DOS window pops up briefly when opening the Help -> Inkscape Manual (which does proceed to the manual properly).
Why isn't it working?
I'm using Vista Business. Is it possible that Inkscape's dxf export function is incompatible with Vista? For example, I know Vista often won't let programs create files in the Program Directory folder anymore, so if the function tries to write a temporary file there, as an intermediate step, it might be getting blocked and the dxf export function would need to be adjusted to use a permitted file location instead.
FWIW, the .svg file was created by doing a Path -> Trace Bitmap of a pretty simple .jpg of a schematic line drawing of a bowl (with some noise along the side).
Is this a known problem with the .dxf export function? Is there a way to get it to work?

[solved] "save as" dxf -> nothing ? ? ?
Re: "save as" dxf -> nothing ? ? ?
Correction -- I found that if I let it run for 55 minutes, it finished. I'll post a suggestion to speed it up or at least provide a % progress indication.

No need. Someone found the same issue and it has now been reported viewtopic.php?f=18&t=674
