Hey everyone
I have an inkscape project 960 x 640 with grid squares of 32, im am using this to create video game tiles for my current project. However at the moment the file is extremely slow and at times I cant even open it. It stands at 130mb!! I know it should not be anywhere near this, maybe 1mb at most. Im not an expert (hoping somebody on here is...) but I beleive it could be to do with embedded pictures.
At the begining I imported several pictures ( all different file types) and used the embed picture option not relising what this actually ment. With the pictures I used the trace option and then deleted the original images but i believe because I embedded them they are still there somewhere... Im very new to inscakpe and hope somebody has any ideas what I can do to reduce the size or get rid of the embedded images?
thanks everyone
SVG stands at 130mb!!! is it an embeded picture problem??

Just incase I wasn't very clear my problem is my file size seems to still think the embedded pictures are still there but I deleted them, is there any way to rectify this and reduce the file size so I can work on it again. Thanks

Welcome to InkscapeForum!
Can you provide the SVG file for us to examine? It might be easier for us than guessing what might be there. You could attach it to a reply (use Post Reply, not Quick Reply) or upload wherever you prefer, and give us a link

There are a number of things that can cause a large file size. I'll name as many as come to mind, and others may reply with other thoughts. But this route may be a long guessing game.
I don't know if this makes any difference, but did you delete the embedded images, or unembed them. Perhaps deleting the images leaves them still embedded and contributing to file size?? Let's see what I can find in the manual.... No, I didn't find anything helpful there -- only that embedding images can result in large file sizes. If you haven't already, try using the Extensions menu > Images > Extract Image extension. Also, have you tried File menu > Vacuum Defs? That might get rid of any lingering traces, should they exist. Well, to my understanding, it should.
Other things:
If you simply can't isolate the problem, you could try using Layers, if you're not already. Then you can close off (hide) the layers that you don't need at the moment, and it will help speed things up a little bit.

Other things:
- large number of nodes
- a lot of gradients
- a lot of filters (including blurs) I think some filters add more to the file size than others, but I'm not sure.
- nested clones, large number of clones, especially if they contain gradients and/or filters, including tiled clones
- there could be hidden or locked objects or layers
- probably a few more things, that I can't remember at the moment (or just don't know about)
