GUI problem - Win 7 - 0.48.4r

GUI problem - Win 7 - 0.48.4r

The Inkscape GUI is meshed up when I open file with open with.. from Windows Explorer.

When I start Inkscape first and then drag a file in or select one through the file open dialogue there is no problem.

I don't know whether it's related but this started after I tried to open a certain page from a pdf file and Inkscape had the GUI problem and crashed. I already uninstalled en re-installed it but the problem stays. I only recently installed this version, but I never had this behaviour before.

Hello,

We are just users here. It may be better to be known for the developers.
Your log says that it's a problem with a library file.

But I would say to install the last stable release: Inkscape 0.48.5

Also, check the configuration files, which are in hidden directories and files all along your user directory

Hi

In the mean time I installed 0.48.5 r10040 and the same thing happens when I open it with the open with.. function from explorer.

This is the PDF file. I tried to open page 3.

I also tried to open other PDF files and Inkscape also crashes on them. The dialogue says "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." Then I get an Inkscape dialogue: "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now". When I open .svg files I with RMB-open with.. the GUI is also meshed up, but the application doesn't crash.

Please confirm that you erased all the hidden configuration files, which are showed in the link that I give you before. Also, check if after uninstalling there are remaining files or directories related to this or other Inkscape installations. Google it how to do it.
I believe that after a clean and installation, the problem should not appear again

In my system I have installed Inkscape 0.48.5 and Inkscape 0.91. I try to follow your steps, but when opening the pdf from windows file explorer, it opens it on inkscape 0.91. And I don't see any problem similar to yours. In my Inkscape 0.91, which still is not the final release yet, thereare no problems with the icons or crashing.
Also, you don't mention anything about the window that appears before opening inkscape where some options for importing the pdf are showed.

Have you installed some other software recently? or an Anti Virus?

I installed Inkscape again after erasing all remaining files manually and I also deleted some Inkscape related registry settings. It solved the problem.

Hello,

I'm glad it worked. However, the cause that triggered the problem remains. The work-around, for the moment is to import the PDFs only when inkscape is opened.
Other thing I noticed is that in your first screenshot, a GTK icon appears in the top-left side of the window, instead of the Inkscape icon. All this signs may be related to a corruption in the gui library (libglib-xx.dll), or something related. WHY???... I don't know
