Paths accidentally link up at the wrong place: Looks cool, but that's not what I was trying to do!

Hello!

What did I do wrong here? I was creating this 'at' sign, and I realized (couldn't figure out) that one can't add nodes to a shape, so I made the semicircle myself before completing the other parts of this symbol. The image looked great with the stroke on and the fill off, but adding a fill showed me a different story entirely. Now I know that the beginning of the circle on the right hand side is joined with the end of the circle at the bottom. Is there a way to disconnect these nodes from each other so that the symbol looks as an "At Sign" should? Thanks in advance.

Hi.

That compound path is made from open segments. You need them closed for the right appearance, like with using scissors to cut out the subpaths in one go.

Probably merging the double nodes at the bottom would make it look ok, although the right side has at least one open segment as well.

Thanks for replying! Sorry, I'm super new to this. Can you explain how I would go about doing this?

Use the node tool (F2), rectangle select the bottom nodes and click the third icon on the tool's settings on top with the tooltip "join selected nodes".

For the right part there could be a few possible options that produce the same look.
Rectangle select all four nodes on the area, click the 6th icon with the tooltip "delete segment between two non-endpoint nodes".
After that, select the two nodes on the left and join selected nodes, and repeat it with the right two nodes as well.
