Hello,
I am using Inkscape to created vectoral images (EPS format) to be used in video editing through Boris Graffiti application.
However, Boris is unable to load EPS from Inkscape properly. When I was reading the Boris help guide, it was mentioned that the EPS file should be compatible with Adobe Ilustrator. They mention:
"If your EPS file was not created in Adobe Illustrator, it might not be compatible. You should ensure that your EPS file is Illustrator-compatible before importing it. A number of shareware programs can convert an EPS file to an Illustrator-compatible file". (http://www.borisfx.com/graffiti/help/ww ... wwhelp.htm)
So, I would appreciate any help to handle this conversion. How could I make an Illustrator-compatible EPS file through Inkscape? Considering the possibility of Inkscape can't do it, does anyone now "shareware programs can convert an EPS file to an Illustrator-compatible file"?
Many thanks in advance,
Cadu
How to convert EPS file created in Inkscape to Illustratror?
Re: How to convert EPS file created in Inkscape to Illustrat
I'm fortunate enough that my company has purchased a copy of Illustrator for me so I can pass my Inkscape stuff to our advertising people and know that it survived the conversion to EPS correctly. When I'm at work on my Win7 machine I just open my SVG in Illustrator and rip it out. This is really the only time I ever use the EPS format. I obviously cannot do that on my Linux box. I suppose there are quite a number of ways to convert SVG to EPS when Inkscape fails. One method that I use is pdftops. It works in Linux and Windows and there's probably a Mac binary floating around. I'll assume that you are a Windows user so you can find that package here: http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html
The basic workflow that you would use is by first saving a copy of your Inkscape work to a PDF file. Then open a command prompt and use this: pdftops.exe -eps filename.pdf. That will convert your filename.pdf to filename.eps. I've had pretty good luck with this making a compatible Illustrator EPS file. Just know that it may not work every time depending on the complexity of your inkwork.

Re: How to convert EPS file created in Inkscape to Illustrat
Hi. Thanks for information.
The downloaded file was "xpdf-3.03.tar.gz". But inside the file there are a plenty of others but none with .exe extension. How could I install the software? Did I download the wrong file maybe?
Best,

If you are using it in Windows then yes, it's the wrong one. You will need to download the zip file instead.
Re: How to convert EPS file created in Inkscape to Illustrat
Hi. I could use it now.
After have converted to .EPS file, I realized the output format isn't good to use in Boris FX. In my test I created a simple 3D box and I could visualize just the form with both fill and stroke black.
Do you know other software that convert to an EPS file compatible with Adobe Ilustrator?
Thanks,
Cadu

Re: How to convert EPS file created in Inkscape to Illustrat
I'm not in front of my computer at the moment but I suppose you could try ps2eps. You can find the package here http://www.tm.uka.de/~bless/ps2eps Basically save your inkwork out as PS first then convert to eps. See what happens.

Thanks again. I will take a look on this solution. Anyway it is giving some work and I am not completely confident in the conversion results. Maybe I will try Illustrator...
