I've been searching how to do this, but I cannot find anything.

I like Inkscape to ink drawings, using the calligraphic tool. But I cannot change the color of the next stroke. In fact, the only way to change the color of this tool is by selecting a stroke already drawn, then apply it a color, then open the preferences window and click the "Apply from selection button". It seems too complicated for me, and I think it must be a quicker method.

Any help?

When the Calligraphy tool is active you can click on a color in the color palette and it will assign the fill for the Calligraphy tool. (you can also set the Calligraphy tool stroke if you right-click on the color chip in the palette)

You also need to adjust your Inkscape Preferences > Tools > Calligraphy - make sure that the "Select new path" is unticked (otherwise when you change the fill color for the tool, the last lines color will be changed too because it will remain selected.) If you tick "Show selection cue" you'll be able to see when an object is selected even while using the Calligraphy tool

So your workflow should now be
1. draw a calligraphy line (its fill and stroke color will be the present one)
2. change color of fill (or stroke) by clicking on a color in the Palette (you will see it changed in the top right corner)
3. draw a new calligraphy line, its color will be the new one (from step 2.)

When I click a color in the palette below the color doesn't changes (i've tried right click, left click, center button click...nothing happens, it's still black). I only can drag a color over a created object.
Is it maybe a bug? Or i'm doing something wrong...

I've noticed I can do that with rectangle, circle, star tools, but not with calligraphic tool.

Im not sure but it may be a new feature in 0.46 (Im using the development version). Are you on 0.45?

You can try the new version if you like, you can even install it in a different folder and have both versions on the same machine at the same time. Whats your OS?

I've tried 0.45 and 0.46, both with the same problem.
I have Windows XP SP2, AMD 64 Dual Core 4200+, 2 Gb RAM, Wacom Intuos 2 (though it doesn't work with mouse also).

No, I've tried it in 0.45.1 and 0.46pre2, and it works fine in both. (The preferences for the calligraphy tool are different in 0.45.1, however: "Select new path" is called "Keep selected", and there's no "Show selection cue". But that's not really a problem.)

Change your calligraphy preference to "Last used style". Otherwise the style is fixed, and clicking in the palette has no effect.
