Non responsive to mouse Windows 10
Non responsive to mouse Windows 10
I am running windows 10 in a Core i5 Lenovo laptop. For some reason it has stopped responding to my mouse. When I launch, it responds for a click or two, but then stops. If I click off it and click back on, it works for a single mouse click, then stops responding again.
I have upgraded my video drivers. That did nothing. Cannot find any conflicts.
Any idea what's going on?

Re: Non responsive to mouse Windows 10
Does it work with the touchpad or another external mouse?

Re: Non responsive to mouse Windows 10
I would suggest first make sure it's happening only with Inkscape, and it's not the mouse malfunctioning.
Is this happening in a blank new file? Or is it a large file? If it's a large file, let's say over 1 to 5 mb (depending on how much RAM you have), and your last click was asking Inkscape to make a lot of calculations, then the problem is that you don't have enough RAM to be able to handle that image. If you wait long enough, Inkscape might eventually finish doing whatever you asked. Then you will be able to click something else.
For example, if it's a very large file, and you did Select All and try to move the whole image. Or if you're zoomed in and you try to do pretty much anything. Here's an article/tutorial I wrote about how to prevent performance issues. So if this is your problem, this info will help. http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/inde ... article=35
Inkscape doesn't rely very heavily on the graphics card. If I understand correctly, it's mostly filters that require the graphics driver. But for everything else, Inkscape uses RAM. I don't think Inkscape uses a video driver at all, although I could be wrong. But Inkscape is not a video editor or player.

Re: Non responsive to mouse Windows 10
No. It doesn't work with the trackpad, and it isn't the mouse. Inkscape seems to be the only program I use that has this problem. Once it happens, I can still access the menu's - they respond to the mouse. But the toolbars do not respond. And I cannot pan or zoom using the mouse or scroll wheel. If I hold the alt key and click an object, it selects it. Then I can move it with the arrow keys, but it will not respond to the mouse dragging it.
Really weird, huh?
My wife's lenovo has less memory than mine, and was upgraded to Win 10 at the same time. Inkscape runs flawlessly on it.
It would be great if someone has a suggestion of what to try next.

Also, it used to work great on this computer - even after the initial upgrade to Win 10. I truly can't figure it out.

Have you changed anything about your computer's display, such as set an unusual resolution, change the orientation, or use a screen magnifier or other accessibility device?

Re: Non responsive to mouse Windows 10
Have you changed anything about the 'Input Devices' in Inkscape's Edit -> Input devices, for using with a tablet? I do have a similar problem when I have my graphics tablet plugged in - menus work, canvas doesn't with the mouse then (but with the tablet). When I unplug it, all works well again - so it's 'either tablet or mouse - but never both' for me.

Oh yes Moini! Also problems like this can be caused if you happen to rest your mouse on top of the tablet. Assuming you have a tablet....I don't think you said?

Nothing unusual. I haven't messed with it at all.

I don't have a tablet, and the setting is for "Screen" and the pressure sensitive box is unchecked.

No tablet, so I don't think that's the problem.
Still get two mouse actions, then none.
Re: Non responsive to mouse Windows 10
MMmm, such a mystery.....
The only thing I can think of is to dig into the details for a clue. And try everything that might give us a clue.
Panning changed in version 0.91. I don't normally use panning, so I can't remember the details. But here's the info: https://inkscape.org/en/doc/keys091.html"uncited">
"click off it" means you deselect an object? And this is in a small file? Open a new blank file and try this:
The weird thing about that statement, is that using the Alt key with Selection tool is the technique for selecting an object that's below another object in z-order. Normally it's tricky to drag an object which is below another, with the mouse. To do it, it's Alt + click. Release the mouse button, but not the Alt key, then do a click-drag. And that changed in 0.91. Before, it was a little different.
Is that what you were trying to do (select an object that's below another)? Have you changed any key bindings (customized key shortcuts)?
Sorry if those questions seem random or illogical. I just don't have any idea where the problem might be...

- not on top of the rectangle, draw an ellipse with Ellipse tool
- give it a different color (use Object menu > Fill and Stroke dialog)
- not on top of the other objects, draw a star with Star tool
- drag the rectangle
- drag the circle

Here's what I did:
1. Open new document.
2. Select the rectangle tool from the tool bar on the left.
3. Draw a rectangle, which is filled when it is drawn.
From there on, the toolbar is non responsive. If I double click it, the preferences come up. Otherwise, I can keep drawing rectangles, or hit escape twice, which highlights the select tool, but leaves the cursor in rectangle mode.
How weird is that?
