[solved] 3.4 Million Circles

Postby minzi » Thu Jul 28, 2016 3:11 pm

A bit of context:

I've been making halftones in inkscape. The current one I'm working on uses .100mm circles, that are so dense that if I filled up the page, it would be over 3.4 million dots. Inkscape keeps crashing on me, I can't even duplicate the 157,000 dots I have right now without it shutting down.

I've been making these manually, using the distribute functions and the group function.

I've tried making a pattern, but Inkscape seems to have an issue when I make patterns.

The pattern on the top is a pattern, and the one on the bottom is done manually.

Any suggestions? I should mention, that the version of Inkscape I have is over 3 years old (though I don't know the version number.) If the pattern issue or anything that relates to what I'm doing is fixed in any newer versions, please let me know.

I'd say tile is the only way to go with this.
There was some improvement in 0.91, most importantly new renderer is cairo based -produces different rendering issues (a bit less than the previous).
Would that be fluent I don't know.

I would try drawing different pattern fills.
Like, current one has the dots at the tiles edges, try to make a simple fill where the dot is centered on a transparent square and to build up the halftone pattern by two fill patterns shifted upon eachother.

I tried the different pattern fill in the current model I have (which I found out is 48.4) and it didnt work. I tried the tiled clones but it crashed due to it still being too many objects.

I updated inkscape and it worked! Thanks for the idea of different pattern fills, because if I just made a square of the space between the normal pattern, part of another dot would have overlapped. Thanks for solving the problem.
