Hi all! I'm new to Inkscape! I'm having a problem with grid lines. The origin of the paper for both the x and y is at 0. I have the grid lines set to inches, and to 1/4" spacing. And the origin of the grid lines for x and y to 0. The problem is the grid lines aren't matching up with the ruler. So the lines aren't falling on the 1/4" marks on the ruler. Has anyone else had this problem or know what's going on? Or is it something to do with me not knowing Inkscape well enough? Thanks all!

Aaahh, one of the first messages I posted here, a few years ago now The short answer is that's just the way it is. And unfortunately, I can't remember the long explanation. I think it's just that the rulers are just like a helpful guide, and that the actual Guides and Grids are the proper tools for precisely placing things.

There are a few different ways to accurately place nodes, objects, etc, which I can explain if you don't already know. And if you are using snapping with the grid, and snap a node, for example, to the grid, it IS placed accurately. You might also notice that after you place a node, for example, at a grid intersection, and when you zoom in and out, the node might look like it's not exactly at the intersection anymore. Oh, let me just go find that topic, so you can read the explanations I was given.... brb

Wow, it's interesting to read older messages of mine. It reminds me of how much I've learned and how far I've come with Inskcape. Unfortunately, the topic I was thinking of turns out not to be exactly the same as your question. Maybe someone else can explain why the Guides and Grids don't always appear to line up with the rulers?

Do the units of the rulers match the units used for the grid spacing (inch)?

(The rulers use the units set in 'File > Document Properties > Page > Default units'; it defaults to 'px' (SVG user units).
The tooltip of the rulers reveals the current units).

The ruler and grid units are both inches. Just now I created a new drawing and for the first time after doing it a lot of times the grid lines and ruler do line up. I don't believe I've messed with any settings since the last time I created one but I might be wrong.

It's not a bug and it's nothing you've done wrong

Hopefully it'll continue to work. Now I just need to learn to draw!
