Invisible stuff is printing

Postby Tee Dee » Fri Feb 27, 2015 3:36 pm

I use Eagle to create electronic circuit layouts in .pdf... I am trying to use Inkscape to position the pdf, so that it is in the right position, when I print it. I created a rectangle and moved it to the correct position, to use as a template. I imported the pdf and placed it within the rectangle. When I print it, the pdf prints correctly, but it also is surrounded by a black background that I do not want. I do not know where this extra black stuff is coming from... It does not show on the drawing... Thank you for your help...

When I try to post the template with the PCB, I get this notice:
"The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 256 KiB"
Any way to get around that?

It's probably not that the file is too big, but PCB format probably isn't allowed. I know, this forum software is weird. You could try zipping it, and the forum will allow it, but how many people can open or view a PCB. I don't know, maybe not many?

Hi.

Try zipping the file before posting.

brynn, I reckon the PCB is in the SVG file. Max file size for SVG on this board is 256Mb.
PCB = Printed Circuit Board. The OP had the PCB design in the SVG fle.

I forgot about zipping it. Great idea! You are correct... PCB is not a file format; it is an abbreviation for Printed Circuit Board. Thank you so much for your help!

Hi.

Your file contained some unused clip-paths that could be the source of your problem.
You can see the outline of those clip-paths if you go to (you guessed it) - outline mode. (Ctrl 5) "5" key on numpad - numlock first.

I remove the unused clip-paths and vacuumed the file for unused definitions, file size reduced from 1156 Kb to 892 Kb.

Try this;

Those eagle pdf files are composed of thousands of objects.

I haven't used it, but the gerber to svg online tool is reputed to be good:

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Thanks, Tyler, for the link to the manual. I did do my "homework"; I spent a couple of hours on it. I am just such a noob that I wouldn't even know what to look for:-)

How odd that I've just received some spam from PCB Prototype Fabrication/Printed circuit board Supply与您共享了相册。 I can't quite connect how that could be related to this topic, but otherwise, I've never heardof PCB (except for mistaking if for a file format).
