Generate print sheet with image repeated

Postby OiPenguin » Wed Apr 06, 2016 6:44 am

Hi!

I'd like to generate a print sheet with an image (beer labels) repeated several times (3 by 2 layout), similar to this:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3GHV_ ... sp=sharing
This example is generated using LibreOffice --> Export to pdf by importing the .png generated in Inkscape and repeating it multiple times. It's not a very smooth solution, it's hard to retain the printing marks and ...just inconvenient.

I've looked at the Print to file-option in Inkscape, but I'm unable to repeat the image. Surely, there must a be a clever solution which I'm not aware of.

Amazing software, by the way. I really enjoy learning and using it.

Yours sincerely,

Lars

I'd make one label located in position (upper left), group all elements for the lable and use tiled clones of that group.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Thanks for your reply. I've yet to try it, but will next time I print labels.

I'm confused with your workflow. Did you create the image originally in Inkscape? Although this can be done easily with tiled clones, as tyler suggested, or personally, I might just used guides or a grid and place them manually using Snapping. But there is at least 1 extension that will place them in a grid, and ready for printing.

(I've been working on making sort of a master list of Inkscape extensions, which otherwise are scattered here and there around the internet, and it's almost impossible for anyone to find what they might need.) However, I have not actually used these, so I can't say whether they work or not. (That will be the next step in my project!) But you can check these out:

Image Aligner
Countersheet - and also at https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/299033 ... evelopment (even though made to use for building games, can be used for labels, etc.)

And then there's one for print marks. So if you lose them, maybe you could make new ones?? Someone help me out, I can't seem to find it  I thought it was already packed with Inkscape. I probably would be snake-bit by now....aarrgh!

Edit
Found it! Extensions menu > Render > Layout > Printing Marks. The extra submenu tricked me, lol.

Thanks for excellent advice and sorry about the late reply. I've changed my settings so I'll be notified when I get a reply from inkscapeforum from now on.

Tiled clones is excellent, especially in combination with grids. I've also learnt to adjust the size appropriately based on real life measures.I was familiar with printmarks, but it is not possible to use those in combination with tiled clones, i.e. getting six sets of printmarks.

A master list of extensions, preferably with extensive description, would be great so I'll be on to applaud your next project. Inkscape is a fantastic tool and great fun!

Fyi, now the project is even better! From the list I make, someone else is going to upload as many extensions as possible to the website (https://inkscape.org/en/download/addons/). So you'll be able to download them from 1 place. And then those which might have non-open licenses, or the author can't be contacted (for permission to upload) can at least still be found from the list.
