Hi all
I am new to inkscape
I am trying to flow to text a large amount of text and inkscape keeps crashing
I am attempting to (in tiny font) put a whole star wars script into an silhouette. Its a gift for my nephew, whose birthday is at the start of feb
Is there any tips or other methods I should be using?
TIA

Re: flow to text
You might need to break the text into parts.
Please post your system info and Inkscape version.

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: flow to text
Thanks for that
I have 64 bit windows 10 using latest version
I have tried breaking text up (thanks to your suggestion) which worked great the first time I selected flow text. The next time (following the same process) the new text went onto of the existing text and when i moved the new text down it remained in the shape it was in originally (the same shape as the first text) i hope that makes sense
Do you know how to make new section of text appear after previous section and/or how to change the shape of the new section so that it flows into the frame where i want it to?

Re: flow to text
I'd try making a copy of the remaining area in your silhouette that you want to fill with text, then flow the remaining text into that.
Basically breaking the whole job into x number of pieces... e.g. three chunks of text into three chunks of your silhouette.
I'd flow the first chunk of text and put a guideline(s) or paths where it reaches, and divide the silhouette there, then repeat as needed.

that makes so much sense lol thanks for that really appreciate it
Re: flow to text
I would make the text either centered, or justified left and right. For justified, you can only do that with flowed text. But since that's what you're using, it should work.
You should also know that flowed text won't show up on a webpage, and you might have trouble saving it in a non-SVG format. Printers could have trouble with it as well. So depending on your ultimate goal, you might have to change the text to paths. But be sure to save the text as text, somewhere in the document, in case you ever might need to edit again. Because after the text is converted to paths, you won't be able to edit as text.
But I do wonder why you're unable to do it with a large amount of text. When you say "whole star wars script", do you mean the entire script of a movie? Well, that IS a lot of text. Or do you mean the text that scrolls on the screen at the beginning?
If it's the entire movie's text, you may well be hitting on some limitation of the software. Are you able to paste the text into an Inkscape document, without flowing it?
You must have had the first outline selected, when you flowed the 2nd chunk of text. Just be sure you have the right section selected for the right bunch of text.
