I have a very simple yet annoying problem: In the dropdown menus (File, Edit, etc.), there are no keyboard shortcuts displayed (e.g. Ctrl-Z for Undo). I have the shortcuts, but the menus won't tell me about them. And I can't seem to find anywhere where I can enable this.
I'm using Inkscape 0.48 on Ubuntu 12.04 (with that crap called Unity). I don't know if this is ubuntu-specific, but there are shortcuts displayed in Firefox and other programs.
Thanks for any help!
No keyboard shortcuts in menus
Re: No keyboard shortcuts in menus
Welcome to InkscapeForum!
It sounds like it could be a bug. But I haven't had any success searching Launchpad (bug tracker). Is "Ubuntu 12.04 (with that crap called Unity)" a very recent upgrade? If so, perhaps it just hasn't been reported yet.
I'm confused by

Are you saying that you expect keyboard shortcuts to be displayed in menus of all programs that you run on the Ubuntu system? Because of course, Inkscape can't run on Firefox, or any browser. Well, I think some people have made Inkscape to run in browsers through web-based apps. I don't know their names or URLs, but if that's where you see the problem, you'll need to contact support for that website.
I know that there is a relationship with Inkscape in Linux operating systems that does not exist with Windows or Macs, and perhaps that is partly expressed with keyboard shortcuts in all menus? But if you normally have shortcuts in all menus, but they're not showing up in Inkscape, then that would seem to me to be a bug in Inkscape. It's fairly common to have Inkscape bugs that are restricted to one particular operating system, to the exclusion of others.
I think you should wait for someone who is familiar with Linux/Ubuntu to comment on this, before filing a bug report (perhaps BobSongs or ~suv?). Because perhaps there might be some sort of Ubuntu settings you can adjust or something? But I'm leaning strongly towards bug.
Meanwhile, you could use Help menu > Keys and Mouse Ref. I know it's not the same, but at least you're not entirely in the dark

Re: No keyboard shortcuts in menus
Thanks for the replies and thanks for the welcome.
This reply is a little late -- just wanted to say that I got it fixed by disabling the socalled "appmenu" in Ubuntu/Unity. That's the Mac-style menu bar at the top of the screen -- when it's disabled it turns into "regular" menus in the actual Windows instead (M$ Windows- and Linux-style).
