i installed 0.47 some a short while ago and really liked it. i have this version on my desktop and the last version on my laptop. i was doing some work on my laptop and needed to make simple shadow.
basically: duplicate the object, turn it black, blur, shift it a bit and move to the bottom. i also had to rotate the objects when finished.
this works fine in 0.46. i then tried the same thing in 0.47, later in the day, and could not get this to work. when the object is rotated the shadow gets really choppy at the edges and looks terrible. also, shadows under circles look choppy
i try rotating the object first with no luck. i notice the shadow "drop shadow" filter and tried that.... no good.
so, i've since uninstalled 0.47 and reinstalled 0.46 which works fine.
i like the new features in 0.47, except the changes in how text is handled, but i'm out on it for now.
shadows in 4.7
Re: shadows in 4.7
Quality of on-screen blur rendering can be set in the Filter section of Inkscape Preferences. Lower settings are are often preferable: they look bad, but they render faster (and bitmap export is not affected).

this is a good answer. thank you for that.
i reinstalled 0.47. the settings were at "Better Quality" for Gaussian Blur Quality and "Average" for Filter Effects Quality. After some experimenting I had to set both at the Best setting to get it to work.
btw, the Gaussian Blur setting is at Average for 0.46 and that works great.
Re: shadows in 4.7
so is there a setting like this for normal objects? when i simple rotate a rectangle in 0.47 it gets choppy at the edges. i expect some but this is lots more than with 0.46
Re: shadows in 4.7
I don't think there's any setting for this. It works fine for me in 0.47. What OS are you using? Could you post a screenshot?
