I love inkscape and I think it is a excellent no wait superior vector too and it's FREE but...
How come I can't export to AI format so I could import what I do in flash?

Re: AI support
I tried to find the log file for Inkscape and I was unable to and that is following the directions from the link you posted, could it be located somewhere else ?
Also I found (I don't know if it is a add-on) a add-on for Inkscape called UniConverter is this for Inkscape?

Re: AI support
This is the Error I get:
Any idea on how to solve
Extension "AI 8.0 Output" failed to load because a dependency was not met.
Dependency:
type: executable
location: path
string: gs

Re: AI support
gs is ghostscript. Install ghostscript and if you still get the error you need to make sure that the ghostscript executable is in the windows PATH environment variable.
Note that I haven't done this myself, so I can't say with confidence that this will definitely get it working.

You know, that's the exact message I used as an example in that thread I linked to with advise on what you need to do to correct.
Sorry, I'm a little bugged I've repeated myself.
Re: AI support
I installed Ghostscript, but I forgot to mention in my Save As options there is no option to save as a AI file so I must not have something installed or do I ??
Re: AI support
And you made sure GS is in your PATH environment variable?
I found you can open AI files in Acrobat Reader and save them as PDF. You might prefer to do this instead.

Re: AI support
The file is created in Inkscape I want to save as AI.
How do I make GS in my PATH enviroment variable?

Re: AI support
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000549.htm - in step 4 you need to add the folder path to GS. Don't edit or remove that paths that are already there. Just add the GS path to the end of the list.
Re: AI support
I got it, I can export to AI 8.0
BUT
Everytime I try to with the option "convert to paths" Inkscape crashes.

Re: AI support
You might want to check if this is a known issue on the Launchpad site and if it's not, report it as a bug. It could be specific to your drawing, so you may need to upload that when reporting it.
Re: AI support
Alright, I will report it as a bug I am not finding anything by searching so I hope I get this solved.
Re: AI support
Well, it turns out I will have to convert SVG to AI or PDF to AI. Now whichever format does the *best* in conversion I will accept but I am searching now but if you know of any tools that can convert SVG-2-AI (version 8) or PDF-to-AI (version 8)
Re: AI support
Well, it turns out I will have to convert SVG to AI or PDF to AI.
Are you able to refer to the source of that information for our own reference?
Do you have to use the "convert to paths" feature? I assume this feature automatically converts all objects and fonts to paths. What if you manually converted them yourself before saving the file so you don't have to enable "convert to paths"?
Also, where are the AI files being used? It seems to me that if your saving as AI it's so you can open the drawing in a different program, and if that program can open an AI then it can probably open PDF as well.
Re: AI support
From Inkscape save as *.dxf
Open the *.dxf file with a cad program like autocad or rhinoceros or others no commercial
From cad export the *.dxf as *.ai
Done

Re: AI support
Hi
I'm also having an issue with saving as .ai
From what I gathered reading around, for the option to appear you need to input the gs path to windows environment variable.
Here is the log from extension-errors :
L'extension « AI 8.0 Output » n'a pas été chargée, car une dépendance est manquante.
Dépendance :
type : executable
emplacement : path
chaîne : gs
Here is my environement path (I've added all gs path I could think of since this wasn't working) :
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\Program Files\gs\;C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.64\;C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.64\bin\;C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.64\lib\;C:\Program Files\pstoedit\
Am I missing something ?
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: AI support
O brother...
ai is nothing but a pdf file with a different file extension.
Just rename the PDF file to have an ai extension (or vice versa) and you're done.
The only real difference is that ai files retain more info so that they can be edited easier.

Re: AI support
Why isn't documented in the documentation ? I'm admittedly pretty bad at it but I didn't find that mentioned anywhere in the docs.
And if that's the case then why doesn't the conversion automatically happen at opening ? That would seem like a pretty simple fix ?

You are wrong. AI to 9 ver. based on a postscript.
Uniconvertor converts these files to svg very well.

Thanks for that reply.
However, there doesn't appear to be a windows binary version of uniconvertor on their sourforge webpage.
Is there another viable option (besides renaming to pdf) ?

UniConvertor - http://sk1project.org/modules.php?name=Products&product=sk1&op=download
Allowed input formats:
Adobe Illustrator up to 9 ver. (AI postscript based)
For later versions of AI based on the PDF try.
