Central (out)Line + Ripple drop shadow

Postby hmartinho » Tue Apr 15, 2008 7:34 pm

Hi guys and gals;

I'm quite new both to inkscape and this community.
I have two questions about how to's and I'll try to explain what I'm trying to achieve.

For the first one, imagine I have some text, I select no fil(just to make it easier) and select an outline for that text, is there a way to draw another line like the outline but this new one exactly in the center of the text? I don't mean to cross the text, imagine an "I" wich is simple and what I'm trying for is in that case, a vertical line exactly in the center wich would split the "I" in two equal parts. It's easy to draw it with a capital "I" but an "a" wouldn't be that easy to hand draw. I'll try to make some example pictures later on and post them here as attachments.

For my second question, how could I get a rippled reflection effect with Inkscape? I already now how to make reflections, thanks to heathenx, but I'm looking to pimp my reflions a bit with some sort of ripple effect. Let's try to explain, imagine I drop a cube in a glassy/water surface, the reflection I get is rippled! Couldn't explain better, sorry.

I'll be sure to bother you guys often with some more questions, I'm no art/graphics professional (I'm in the timber business), however I like to create and mess around with logos and images.

Thank you for reading.

Cheers.

I would think that you would use the :tool_text: and create your first letter with only a stroke, but no fill. Then duplicate the text, linked offset and scale the duplicate down. If I am correct using linked offset will allow the text to be editable still.

To achieve the rippled drop shadow I believe that if you follow the tutorialby heathenx or forum member Coco for making fire (they use the turbulence filter) you could achieve the rippled effect that you are after.
