I'm quite pleased that we have another web browser that should be popular enough to join the ranks of Firefox, Safari and Opera.
I've read suggestions that this is Google's most evil deed, since it steps directly on the toes of of Firefox/Mozilla and they'll be cutting into their share of the market. I think this is somewhat true, but I also think that the reason IE is so popular because people don't know there is anything else. With a company as big as Google pushing a new browser I think it may raise awareness of other browsers--more people will realise they don't have to use IE.
I also think that it may help SVG. Potentially we have 4 major browsers all with satisfactory support with SVG. And whilst IE is still far more popular, it's the only browser that doesn't support SVG. Competition is great!
Google Chrome - what do we think?
Re: Google Chrome - what do we think?
It would be nice if it made people use IE less, website developers are having a hard time testing their work in so many browsers and platforms that behave differently. But conforming to standards is a much bigger issue than how many browsers there are...
Google said the reason why they did Chrome was to make it from scratch with new technologies and the knowledge about how people use the web. I'll have to wait to test it and see if they really made something new and better. One of the reasons why I'm a Firefox user is customisation, I can change the interface any way I like. As far as I can tell from Chrome screenshots you can easily make Firefox look like Chrome. I hope they make the linux version soon so I can try it out.

Re: Google Chrome - what do we think?
I have used Chrome for a couple days now. I like it. It's very fast but it does have some quirks. It reminds me of Firefox in it's early days. Fast and light. I think I prefer Firefox though because I have grown defendant on some of the add-ons that I use.
Re: Google Chrome - what do we think?
It's definitely fast, but I'm sticking w/Opera b/c of 2 features I find I can't do without: mouse gestures (I really only need them for forward and backward browsing) and adding buttons to the main bar for frequently visited sites.
I like that chrome mimics the speed dial of opera. In opera however when you have a single tab open and close it, you get the speed dial page. In chrome you close the browser. Chrome's behavior actually is more logical, but I like having a shortcut to speed dial.

Re: Google Chrome - what do we think?
I don't think it'll replace FF or Opera. These browsers have complexities I think it's users will miss. I think Chrome has done a great job of simplifying the browsers interface whilst still providing useful features. I've long questioned the appropriateness of the menu bar in browser. It must be the least used part of a web browser and yet it's the most prominent. IE7 reduced it, but Chrome has removed it completely, and I don't think anyone will complain.
Oh, and I really like how it can turn a web page into a standalone application (virtually). I think this is the real draw of Chrome and something MS should be concerned about--although I'm aware that there a plugins for FF to do the same.

Re: Google Chrome - what do we think?
I like it so far, its taken over as my main browser for now.
seems fast and stable, whereas opera on vista seemed v flaky.
SVG support isnt quite up to firefox standards, doesnt run the silverlight esq SVG demo for instance - http://people.mozilla.com/~vladimir/demos/photos.svg
Will be interesting to see where it gos

Chrome is pretty and rather fast, but Google put some tracking stuff into it so I'll stay clear of this beast.

There are already forks like Iron which disable all of that stuff.
