[solved] several small shapes into one

Postby brynn » Thu Sep 18, 2008 4:54 am

Hi Friends,
I have a situation that I can't figure out how to get what I need. I should be able to describe it, but if necessary, I can put up a sample. Just let me know?

For example, I have 10 triangles arranged in a circle, so that one apex of each triangle points outside the circle. And the other 2 apex of each triangle are touching the apex of the ones next to it. So this creates a 10 sided polygon (decagon?) in the middle, and a spikey circle, I guess like a gear, on the outside. I need to use the outside edge, the side with the triangle apexes pointing outward, as a clipping path, so I need not just to fill the polygon, but make all the 10 triangles into one shape or path. Is there any way to do this, other than node editing? A group, or combining all the 10 triangle paths, can't be used as a clipping path, can it?

Thanks for your help :D

A group or sum of all rectangles (Path -> Union or Path -> Combine) can be used as clipping path.

EDIT: rectangles = triangles, well, could be whatever...

Hhhhmm...
Ok, I need to use the outside of the circle of triangles as a clipping path, but NOT the inside. It's actually something that covers the inside part, that's blurred, and the blur shows between the triangles, that's what I want to clip away.

So using the combined paths doesn't work, because it also clips the inside part. So I guess my only choice is to node edit, and turn it all into one shape.

Well, ok then, thanks for your help Inkscapeer.

Deleting the inside path shouldn't be complicated. If you're finding it complicated then you might be doing it the hard way.

Well actually it turned out to be easier than I thought it would be. I've got the shape I need, and have successfully clipped what I needed to clip. Thanks again :D
