Different Inkscape and Gcode origins
Different Inkscape and Gcode origins
I have a CNC router and spent the last three nights on trying to generate a gcode file with Inkscape to engrave a few letters using Grbl controller (using the Gcodetools extension). I'm now close to giving up on Inkscape, because I cannot get the origin in the Gcode to match that shown in Inkscape? I tried both standard document properties and user defined page dimensions, and once found a document property setting that showed similar origins, but unfortunately I can't reproduce what I did. The problem is shown in attached picture. Why is the origin shown in Inkscape not the same as shown in the gcode file read/and shown by GrBL controller. Is this a problem with Inkscape or Grbl Controller and how can I solve this?

Re: Different Inkscape and Gcode origins
Inkscape cleverly hides the fact that SVG originates from the upper left corner, and allows a typical workflow like other vector illustration programs... but the output SVG file will have the origin in the upper left.
You might try flipping the Y axis in the gcodetools extension post-processor.

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: Different Inkscape and Gcode origins
Sorry, can't open the pdf. But I know there's an issue with the creation of orientation points in gcode in Inkscape 0.92.2, which has been fixed for 0.92.3. If the orientation point seems moved horizontally for you, then please update Inkscape to the latest version.
