New From Michigan
New From Michigan
Brand new here and to Inkscape as well as the graphic arts. I've been playing around with Inkscape for about 6 weeks now and I'm really enjoying it. I will mostly be using this for a small home business to make product labels as well as graphics for still unfinished website. I look forward to interacting with everyone here and tapping the knowledge of this place so I don't look like such an amateur when I go to the printers from now on.

Oh, let me guess. The print store hasn't heard of Inkscape?

Michigan. My neck of the woods.

Re: New From Michigan
thanks for the welcome. I haven't mentioned inkscape to the printer yet, but I have had the RGB to CMYK issue there. That's what brought me to the forum in search of a workaround. Maybe when I go in I'll mention inkscape and listen for the crickets. They've been very understanding and easy to work with thus far, we just haven't been able to get the colors right yet, but we will.

Re: New From Michigan
Oh, CMYK. Ok, someone wrote an extension for that. It's not ideal, and eventually we hope that Inkscape will have native CMYK print model. But for now, download the extension that you'll find in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5943. Hopefully that will work, assuming the printer will accept PDF or TIFF

Nothing like a little snow in April, eh?
Re: New From Michigan
Brynn, thanks again, I've tried the extensions but haven't had any luck yet, I'm on windows so maybe that's an issue. Just need to do some more searching around here.
Re: New From Michigan
There are several workarounds for CMYK output. I recommend grabbing Scribus (I'm using 1.4.1) and use it as your CMYK tool for Inkscape. One method that you can use is when you are done with your Inkscape work, save a copy to PDF. Once you get Scribus installed drag-n-drop that PDF onto your Scribus icon. From Scribus choose the PDF export icon and select "printer" as the color output. That will give you a CMYK pdf file. If you need to tweak the colors then you can go to Edit>Colors.
Re: New From Michigan
Alright, I've got Scribus now. Thanks for the help, Heathen.
