[solved] How can I save my filters?
[solved] How can I save my filters?
I've spent long time creating some complex filters, but after restartig Inkscape they all disapear from filters dialog. How can I store them and reuse in other documents? Creating some random shapes, applying filters to them and saving document as ~/.inkscape/templates/default.svg (or /usr/share/inkscape/templates/default.svg) partially solves the problem - I've my filters in newly created documents, but still there is no easy way to use those filters in already existing .svg files.
Re: How can I save my filters?
What I have been doing is saving them out as an svg doc with the name "filter_drop_shadow.svg" or something similar to a filter dir on my local drive. When I want to use the filter in a new document I just drag and drop that in and the filter will be ready for use. Gotta do the same with gradients too.

Re: How can I save my filters?
does copying and pasting between docs not transfer filters?
Should do if the documents are both from the same inkscape session.
If it doesnt its a bug and should be reported...

I understand how you do this with gradients, but I am not sure I understand how you would do this with the filters.

@capnhud
I'm not sure that I understand your question. Just like gradients, you set up your filter and then save out the whole document. When you start a new document and you wish to use a filter that you previously used, you find your svg and then drag-n-drop that onto your canvas. Go to your filter effect dialog and your filter will be present. You do this so that you do not have to set up the filter each time.
Also, keep an eye for openclipart. Alpha13 has uploaded several so far and you can pull them down via File>Import from openclipart Library.

Re: How can I save my filters?
I misread your response I was under the impression you were saving the files like a .ggr and then was dropping something similar in nature into inkscape. Now I understand all that you are doing is dropping a .svg with particular filter effects into a new document.
By the way you mention Alpha 13 has some premade filter effects at openclipart, but I do not see anyone by that name.

Okay, fair enough.
Head over to this blog posting: http://screencasters.heathenx.org/episode-058/#comments and read down toward the bottom. Perhaps "Alpha13" isn't his consistent online nick.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Now I guess it is time to work just developing filter effects to speed up the workflow
