How to create multiple pages in one project
How to create multiple pages in one project
When I run Inkscape (new file), only one page opened. I need make 2 pages in one files for two-sided printing. How can I insert next page into current project? I need make a CD cover. On first page the front of cover and on second page the end and print it as two-sided. Can somebody help me?
Re: How to create multiple pages in one project
Inkscape files are just SVG files, and SVG currently doesn't support multiple pages in one file.
(SVG 1.2 should allow multiple pages in one file, but the SVG 1.2 spec is still in draft.)

Re: How to create multiple pages in one project
What you could do is use inkscape for your illustrations and then use scribus to DTP. Scribus is like similar to applications such as abobe indesign or quark. Best of all there are many templates to do what you are wanting to accomplish.

I wait for support multipages too.
I migrate from Corel and I need multipages.
Sorry for my bad English.

I also suggest a solution in this topic using PDF - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=826

Re: How to create multiple pages in one project
I am, as well, eager for support for multiple pages in one project! As for instance known from coreldraw. By the way, I am using version 0.46 on windows at work, and linux at home . Also, I really like the pdf import, seems to work quite nice in version 0.46. I think the pdf-import is vital for the program. And a last thing: I like the shortcut Ctrl+G for grouping, but the Ctrl+Shift+G for ungrouping is really annoying - could it be changed to Ctrl+U ?

Ctrl+U should already work. Did you try it?
Re: How to create multiple pages in one project
There is always the old hack of using a separate layer or layers to represent pages.
Another hack is to just create rectangles representing different pages. Making this hack less useful is the fact that printing is quite inflexible. There seems to be no way to print anything other than the page extents - you will have to select the page rectangle you want to print, export as a bitmap, and print that. Other than that, you could move each page onto the actual page rectangle to print or save individually as PDF. In this sense, the layers hack works a little better.
Not the same I know. I also come from CorelDraw and love the way it handles pages. I've created 40 page photo books for instance with beautiful text and complex layouts and directly editable graphic elements that way with just one app, and exported to PDF with one command. Pagination is virtually all that's preventing Inkscape from that level of usefulness. (A couple of improved text capabilities like character spacing and line height and 'small caps' would help as well.)

Re: How to create multiple pages in one project
As far as using Scribus, that means learning and using an entirely separate app with a very different working method. Plus if you're doing photos you have to use Gimp to edit the photo, Inkscape to add nice vector graphics, and then yet another app, Scribus, to do the final layout. That is just one app too many. I've tried Scribus, but I really don't do enough DTP things to make it worth my while, and I suspect a lot of people have the same situation. Scribus is more appropriate when you are doing a repetitive publication like a newsletter or magazine or a really long book. It's just not got any graphic drawing abilities at all. It's quite frustrating to have to go back and forth between two apps to adjust your layout.
Again I point to the CorelDraw approach. You can edit text in nice boxes, place photos, draw diagrams and illustrations and charts, do neat things like blurred drop shadows, control margins, align and layer things, full layout, cool things with text like outlines and fit-to-curve, etc etc and of course pagination for a complete document approach. All in one quick app. It's obvious that CorelDraw was a primary inspiration for Inkscape, and again it's only a couple of features away from that level of flexibility and usefulness.

Re: How to create multiple pages in one project
I understand Inkscape's current limitations.
But I would really love it if the developers at some point did add good multiple page support.
I would add that Scribus is a buggy piece of garbage. I just (almost) finished a fairly large project in it and it's just horrific - small changes now require massive effort, undo is broken, etc.. If you can possibly avoid it, I'd urge you not to use Scribus for anything.
Inkscape is essentially the only really good Desktop publishing program in Linux and I'd urge it's developer to expand it to an all-in-one solution. Don't worry duplicating the functionality of Scribus - that functionality does not really exist. Gimp is ok but far from great. Once you can get the one-window version it will be usable.

Just in case someone lands here:
Inkscape has not multiple pages support: https://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape-pages/

It might be helpful (especially in a forum where many (if not most) users work on Windows), what external tools are required for the extension to create multi-page PDF documents "from within Inkscape" and on which platforms the extension has been tested on.
The main limitation is not in Inkscape itself, but in the current SVG specification (Inkscape's native file format) which does not include a definition for layers nor for multi-page documents.

Re: How to create multiple pages in one project
Now you can also use the layers. The only restriction that still remains is that you have to add a new layer through extensions -> pages -> add new layer menu. And of course, do not put the new layers on top of the current page layer. Other then this, you can use the layers. You can also add a layer through the normal menu, just add it as a sub layer of the current page layer.
Re: How to create multiple pages in one project
There is a new tool (for Windows only - sorry!) which you may find useful for this. It exports multiple page PDF documents from Inkscape. You simply define rectangles in Inkscape with a certain ID where you want the pages to be. It is designed for sewing patterns but would work for anything.
