it's me again with dxf stuff. i searched around and the developers should perhaps have a look at the dxflib http://www.ribbonsoft.com/dxflib.html
it's easy to use (i'm currently working with it) and would add more compatiblility to inkscape and perhaps the developers could implement my wishes to get the dxf layers in inkscape layers this would be great.

Can't say for layers, but DXF/DWG support is planned by UniConvertor team, and these days we tend to just unload all import/export requests on them
