font manager programs
Does anybody know of a decent free and/or open source font management program? I'm running Vista home basic. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Re: font manager programs
If by font manager you mean font viewer for installed and uninstalled fonts then perhaps Opcion Font Viewer (http://opcion.sourceforge.net) is what you're looking for.
I know you're not using Linux but for those who are interested a friend of mine suggested I give FontyPython a try. Works great. If it were cross-platform it would be great. https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/fontypython

For a brief period I used Font Frenzy. It allows you to load and unload fonts as you need them--the idea being that having too many fonts installed slows down your PC (which is true) so this application allows you to unload the ones your not using to keep things zippy. I can't remember what my experience with it was like--I think I found I didn't really need it.
Re: font manager programs
Font Frenzy may be what I'm looking for. I'm not looking for a viewer so much as a way to have a ton of fonts on my system without bogging Vista down. Ideally it would be easy to turn fonts off and on as well. I'll give Font Frenzy a whirl.
Re: font manager programs
Font Frenzy is a nice find. I'm going to give it a try on my computer at work which is a Windows machine.
Thanks for the tip, microUgly.

I'm still using "The Font Thing" on WinXP. You should try it on Vista to see if it is working. If yes, then you'll benefit by multiple windows and font collections as well as simultaneous display of more fonts and interactive size.

Hello All,
I thought I would give Font Frenzy a try - but this is what their download page says:
"Font Frenzy is compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista
No download available. FontFrenzy is currently being updated and will be back on-line soon. We apologize for any inconvenience."
I will have to try again in the new year.
Regards
Chas
