Things i dislike about xara extreme

Postby David Hewitt » Fri Mar 20, 2009 2:13 am

Anyway im not an expert on xara but i am warming to it and I have some pet hates...(thats part of the warming process  )

1) Backtracking a node....
The backspace button deletes the last node you have done but after that DELETEs the object? (It should continue to remove nodes... if i want to delete an object i will press del...thanks)...
Also when you use the sketch tool back space deletes the object strait away where as having this key progressively remove nodes, starting from the end and working back to the beginning would be much more useful and sensible...

2) Invisible outlines! (this also applies to inkscape)
When you are actually digitizing a line it is rendered as you do it in a high contrast color even if the stroke setting is set to nothing...however if you do have the stroke set to nothing you are often blind as if you are continuing on from an existing object (done with sketch) or placing down nodes then other portions of your line will be invisible. (i know stroke is set to nothing but when an object is selected i think the outline of the object should always be made Hi-vis....
This would greatly aid whist creating objects with no stroke set as alot of objects do not require stroke outlines...

3) The undo function undoes layer visibility and locking functions..... This is very undesirable....
Should it also log your cursor movements and window scrolling too? and step backwards through these?
This is dopey as it actually sabotages the effectiveness of the layers themselves,,,,

4) digitizing from the last node of an input (continuing it ETC) is very frustrating...
i.e. a little cross or whatever appears when you are over the last node and then you can click down and continue this outline...Good?
in theory but actually if you infact miss by one pixel unawares (and this happens very often) then you are not made aware of this until your whole input is finished at which point you realise that you have two objects....!!!!

other wise i like it LOL

I haven't used the dev build for a while, but I believe this has been addressed in the upcoming 0.47 version.
