[solved] PDF file opens with text showing as gobbledegook

Postby rowan.bradley » Sat Sep 29, 2018 2:45 am

I am trying to edit a PDF file. In Adobe Reader the text in the document appears fine

but when I open it in Inkscpae, it is complete gobbledegook.

How do I open such a file and preserve the text?

Thanks - Rowan

If you can share a sample of the file it could help.

Depending on how that original webpage was saved, the resulting pdf could be easier/harder to load in Inkscape.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

You could try out different import methods - have you switched between internal and poppler in the import dialog?
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!

I think there's also an option about fonts in the PDF Import dialog.

Thanks for your replies. I eventually found that if I used the Poppler import, then the text came through OK. I don't really understand why this is, but problem solved (at least for this specific case).

Thanks for your help.
