Symbol font is installed but does not apply when selected

Postby supvato » Thu Feb 09, 2017 8:53 am

Hello,

I am using inkscape 0.91 to modify some plots generated by MATLAB which include Greek letters. When the plot is imported the Greek characters are modified to a different font. When I try to change this to the Symbol font, the font is actually selected, but the character remains the same. Also, when I try to write the character using the Symbol font, a regular font appears (looks like Arial). This font works in Adobe Pro, BTW.

I have checked that the properties of the installed Symbo font and it is a true type, editable.

In summary, the Symbol font is installed and available in Inkscape, but doesn't work when selected.

Try installing Inkscape 0.92
Apparently, there has something changed with handling fonts...
I had the same issue with a special font. It didn't show up in 0.91 but in 0.92 it did.
Win7/64, Inkscape 0.92.2

Sometimes, especially I've found with free symbol fonts, they just aren't made very well. Inkscape seems to be fairly particular about fonts. I have quite a few installed, which work in other programs, but not in Inkscape. For the current stable version, Text seems to be Inkscape's Achilles heel.

@Brynn: a lot of it will be fixed in 0.92.1 - the spacing in old files will be autofixed on open, relative units are working again and will be saved. The text tool bar is still a bit mysterious, but it works again as before, esp. if you set to 'no unit' (blank).
Something doesn't work? - Keeping an eye on the status bar can save you a lot of time!
