Inkscape on Mac Disk Image
Inkscape on Mac Disk Image
Installed Inkscape this morning on my iMac OS 10.6.8. Download went fine and icons hopped right onto the dock. Opened it and explored a little. Exited. Clicked icon on the dock to re-open and a dialog(?) box opens with a green background that has a pic of the applications folder and the icon for Inkscape - I think there is a faint arrow behind it. Opened the applications folder and see Inkscape listed as "disk image". Did I miss a step somewhere that will cause problems down the road? The only other thing showing as 'Disk Image" is flash player. Please help this novice!
Re: Inkscape on Mac Disk Image

I'll try to help....
You seem to be a little new with things so, just to clarify a bit.......
The 'disk image' is just a protected 'read-only' kind of folder that enables you to get a copy of inkscape installed onto your computer from the internet.
Inside that 'disk image' folder' (disk image) you will see an icon of inkscape also an applications folder (actually an alias of it) of YOUR applications folder. This is just for your convenience.
All you had to do, typically, is drag the inkscape icon ONTO that applications icon(alias) and this will copy inkscape to YOUR applications folder on YOUR computer.
And your done.
At this point you can either EJECT the disk image or drag it somewhere else if you want to keep a copy of it. To EJECT it either right click on it(and select eject) or just drag it to the trash, it is not really needed anymore.
Strangely, it sounds like you somehow ended up with a dock icon of the disk image.
It is not supposed to be there really. You want Inkscape (the application) there in which case, you should drag the Inkscape application Icon to the dock, which will make it more convenient to start up inkscape later.
You should be able to just double click on the inkscape icon to fire up inkscape in your applications folder.
Check that before you actually eject the disk image.
If you have any other questions about this BEFORE you do anything at all, please ask....

Re: Inkscape on Mac Disk Image
Thanks for the clarification! I have actually been using Macs since about 1990, but only for very basic things like Word and Filemaker. My applications normally come out of boxes.... I now have the actual application on the dock though I have not ejected the disk image. Thanks again for direction and explanations. My current adventure in starting to do some web pages is stretching my comfort zone!
