Game scene wip

Postby toxigames » Fri Apr 14, 2017 12:40 am

Soon finished with the player airfield. What do you think about it, any suggestions? I am thinking about adding a flag and perhaps a lookout tower :)

Working on some water and a battleship. It's nearing completion I think :)

Game scene work in progress. I have worked a bit on some new graphics for my scene and this is so far what I have come up with. Feedback is very welcome :) Ctrl-Click for go to new browser tab with full image at imgur.com

Hi.

The landscape section texture looks too vivid and bright to me, and its overall simplistic style with the trees are in too much contrast with the sprites
-which are nicely detailed, but at this size they are harder to distinguish.
Including the Sun in the scenery might not be a good idea with the blinking lights surrounding.

Thank you Lazur, my idea was to make the important game objects clear to see and detailed so the player can have easy focus on the important stuff, but I can see how it seems off from the landscapes more simple style.

Very, very cool!

It is looking good, my friend! Keep it up!

Just one little comment:
I think the style of some objects (e.g. the "pipes", and little missiles) are not "talking" perfectly with the scenario, maybe you could think about it.

But I am newbie at this, and I am not as professional as you. It is just my amateur opinion.

Thank you!

oh wow, professional.. Im honestly honored because I consider myself very much an amateur also. Thanks for the feedback, and I do see the point about those smaller sprites being a different style, more detailed, than landscape. I'll have to think about that, perhaps detailing the landscape also.

Oh, the depth and detail is wonderful! Well done!

Hhmm...after some thought. Might need more of a helipcopter than airplane, to navigate the terrain.....?

Edit - Oooh, I know what it reminds me of. Reminds me a little of Roadrunner terrain!

Thank you brynn. And a helicopter yes, that's not a bad idea at all :)

It is looking better now, as brynn said a helicopter would make more sense... But this is just a game.

Very good!

Thank you BlueKnight! :) I'm thinking about having both a helicopter and a plane. Perhaps helicopter will have more maneuverability but use more fuel, while plane will be faster and use less fuel but with less maneuverability.

The new one seems more easy on the eyes than the first one. Also, the first one had a lot of negative space. Clearly, there's some improvement going on here. You did well. :)

Thank you Beta0, I'm really happy for the feedback! I'm trying to better myself and also to spend more time doing it. Too much procrastination sometimes unfortunately :/

Wow!

I've always been curious about how games are made. I guess once you make the graphics, you can find or buy the code which runs the game? Or if you're talented, write the code yourself?

I only know some beginner Java and Python, so I use a program called Gamemaker. It simplifies the process a lot and enables users to make games with little or even no programming skills. It's well suited for smaller games, especially 2D games. It's also very useful for prototyping a game, a basic prototype for a game can be slabbed together in mere hours. It comes with a marketplace for users to buy or sell extensions that provide functionality so you don't have to code it yourself. For example a complete working UI, or a complete 2D lighting engine, a 2D water physics simulation engine etc.

Hi,
Instead of a flag, maybe a windsock?
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Oh yeah, that's the one to fit an airfield, thanks!
