I downloaded Inkscape Nightly Build 03-23-09 a few days ago and want to make a couple of comments about what I found. I would also like to hear what you think about what I found.
(Inkscape Nightly Build 03-23-09)
<Calligraphy Tool>
==Width, Tremor, Wiggle, Mass sliders==
Difficult and sometimes impossible to set the exact desired number via only trying to adjust the actual slider.
When I click on the words Width, Tremor, Wiggle, Mass then use the Left/Right arrow keys to change the value, it will only increase or decrease the number by one. If I want to increase/decrease the value by more than one, I must first click on Width, Tremor, Wiggle, Mass then press a Left or Right arrow key only once to change the value by just one number then click on a word again then arrow key again. I have to go through the whole procedure however many numbers I want to increase or decrease the setting.
You should be able to adjust Width, Tremor, Wiggle, Mass exactly the same way as you adjust Thinning, Angle, Fixation, Caps. In other words, Inkscape 0.46 has these adjustments set up perfectly. The new way they are set up in Nightly Build 03-23-09 is a giant step backward.
If Inkscape Nightly Build 03-23-09's new way of working with Width, Tremor, Wiggle, Mass remains in the next version, I will just keep on using 0.46. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!!!
==Hatchings==
Inkscape crashes every time I try to use Calligraphy Hatchings (Vista).
<Freehand/Pencil Tool>
==CTRL+Click dots==
Doesn’t work, no dots, nothing.
==Drawing with Pencil==
Whatever I draw is automatically simplified all the way down to having only two nodes. Pencil properties doesn’t indicate any reason why this might be happening. Is there a Pencil setting I haven’t found to stop the automatic simplification?
Inkscape Nightly Build 03-23-09
Re: Inkscape Nightly Build 03-23-09
Both problems are caused by the Wacom driver (or GTK+) not limiting the input rate.
There was a patch for version 0.46, but don't expect it to work on current snapshots.
For the problem with setting parameters, you can work around using a normal roll mouse (I would prefer entering these parameters by numbers or with arrow keys).
Same for the calligraphic tracing.
The crash is caused by a "THROW_CONTINUITYERROR();" at line 356 in src\2geom\path.cpp.
Commenting this line out solves partially the problem.
It is reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/284546.
