Exporting to PNG, Graininess issues, canvas size

Postby thyblight » Sun Jul 31, 2016 10:25 am

I'm rather new to using Inkscape. I've made vector sprites here and there but I've never gone forth to making an entire videogame level. I had started in tiled to make the level layout that I wanted, but quickly realized when importing said level into inkscape that I wanted to make completely different backgrounds and landscape. I'm using the png from tiled as a basis for the level layout so that I can draw over it and delete it when done. I made a new inkscape file to create grass separate from where I'll be putting it and exported it to png. When importing it to my file it was huge, so I shrunk it down. I then made multiplied the grass and saved all of them under a new png, but when importing that, the resolution was way inferior to what I had created previously. I can't find a way to get around this. I tried blowing up the canvas, but that made the file too large for how much I would have to blow it up.

What is the general canvas size for a 2d platformer game level in inkscape? My level is rather large, but I don't want to sacrifice the quality so that it can be as large as it is. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Just for clarification, I have absolutely looked up various guides online before posting this question. I don't want anyone to think I didn't take the time to try and find this out myself (I started today at about 1 pm and it's 6 pm now).
