Hi all,
I created a brochure for a product, consisting of two A4 size pages. Each page is drawn in Inkscape and then saved as PDF. With an external application I merged the two PDF's.
Each page has a gradient filled background (3 stops, radial), photographs, a few logo's, and text. The rear page has several tables with text too.
When I open the PDF in my pdf reader (Acrobat 9, but tested it in Foxit too, wit similar results) it takes 8 to 9 seconds before my page is fully drawn. I see each different object individually appear, there's about .4 sec between each object to appear. This is when I used a dev build (20607-0902010619) to save as PDF.
When I use 0.46 (april 2008) to save as PDF (via Cairo) not all that I created in Inkscape shows correctly in the PDF, but Acrobat renders it completely in about 1.5 second. And the PDF is 50% smaller.
That what is not functioning when creating the pdf with 0.46 has to do with partially masking objects, to create transparent parts. I can work around that so it looks the same in 0.46, but then I have more hassle in Inkscape maintaining the contents.
My question: why is a pdf saved in the dev build almost twice as big and why does it take so much more time to be shown in a pdf reader?
Can I do anything in Inkscape that will speed up the display in a pdf reader?
The Inkscape dev build now gives better functionality regarding the exported PDF, but the PDF itself is far less usable.
Unfortunately I cannot show or provide links to the brochure (yet)
Thanks
PDF created by Inkscape renders terribly slow
