Is hiding selection handles possible in 0.48?

Postby InkCat » Fri Dec 17, 2010 6:27 am

I have looked but haven't found such a command or setting which would allow one to turn of or make in-visible the selection dotted line and arrows surrounding an active object.

Is there one?

thank you,

ink

Not that I know of. But I think if would be a nice feature to have -- like a button that disables the visibility, or an option in Inkscape Preferences?

Well, IMHO, it would be best to have it be a toggle command by keyboard. Illustrator has it and I believe it's Command-H on the Mac..

it's something I use *all* the time...really is a must-have because the handles and what-not really do interfere when you're trying to make, say, color adjustments to an object which is active.

Plus, in illustrator, you can assign colors to each layer, so that when that object is activated, it could have a green or red or brown or yellow, etc, outline, so the need to be able to hide all that stuff is that much more important.

I feel it would be a key addition to Inkscape...perhaps not the sexiest feature, but one which artists would greatly appreciate having.

You can
  1. change the type of selection clue (the default dotted line)
in 'Preferences > Tools > Per-object selection clue'
  2. toggle showing the selection clue for each tool separately on its preferences pane
You cannot change or hide the selection handles though (the arrows) [1].

[1] AFAIU - I didn't further research it or test alternative sizes/colors - those are pixmaps (src/pixmaps/handles.xpm) that are built in at compile time: you might propose an alternative set of pixmaps for the selection handles (and rebuild Inkscape), but there is no mechanism to change or scale them during run time

Image Ooooh, I thought there was something like that, but when I went to reply, I could not remember, or find where the settings were. Yes, thanks indeed!
