How to export from SVG to XCF with higher DPI?

Postby inkscaper » Wed Apr 23, 2008 7:14 am

I have created some web layouts in Inkscape and now I would like to polish them in Gimp. So I've saved it as "XCF with layers" file in Inkscape, however, I can't figure out where I can set DPI of raterized file, by default it is 72, which is a bit to small for me.

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't a DPI higher than 72 just good for printing purposes? I thought 72 was the default for anything digital. (a web layout being of that category)

It's the default for anything that will be displayed on a computer monitor, yes.

If it's ONLY going to be used for web I wouldn't work with any other resolution simply because any scaling you do (wether you make it smaller or larger) reduces the image quality (unless it's vector, of course).

Assuming you want to do it anyway: I don't have GIMP installed on this PC so can't test saving as XCF--does it give you the option to specify the number of pixels? If not, I would simply increase the size of the drawing in Inkscape. Remember, DPI only influences the number of pixels when you are working with physical dimensions. You can always ignore the DPI provided you have the required number of pixels and set the DPI later.
