Hi Friends,
This is an image I haven't worked with for a week or 2. The last few times I've worked on it, I've been using a Duplicate Window. The very last time I worked on it, I experienced this problem, but closing it and opening it again resolved the problem.
But now when I open it, the only thing that opens is the image on the taskbar. And clicking on the taskbar does not bring it up from the taskbar. By right-clicking on it, in the taskbar, and selecting Maximize, the image is displayed. I need it Restored down, so I can make it small and open a Duplicate Window. But when I click to Restore, it goes back to the taskbar. So it's either Minimize (taskbar) or Maximize. And this time, closing and re-opening doesn't resolve it. (I've closed and reopened 3 or 4 times, to no avail.)
This is only happening with this image. Others open as usual, without any problems. This is the only image I've ever used a Duplicate Window on, which leads me to think the use of the Duplicate has something to do with this problem. But there's really no other evidence to point to that.
I'm hoping some of you wise Inkscape users can help me with this.
My 1st thought is to Maximize it, copy it, and paste it into a new doc. But I'm going to wait unti I hear from folks, because if this is a unique problem that needs to be reported, maybe I can gather more info for the developers. (And if I fix it, I couldn't get more info.)
Thanks for any help you can offer

Re: image stuck min or max, can't use Restore size
What operating system are you using? If it's windows try restarting your computer. if it's linux or osx try 'killall inkscape in a command prompt.
It's quite a strange problem! When you say image, are you talking about an Inkscape SVG file?

Re: image stuck min or max, can't use Restore size
Oh, I'm sorry. I did try restarting, and forgot to mention it.
I'm using Windows XP Home sp2, fully updated (except for the most recent).
Yes, it's a .svg file.
EDIT:
More info:
When I finish working on it with the Duplicate Window, I was closing it (after saving) by clicking the X button in top right corner. This closes bothe the image and Duplicate. I wonder if I should 1st close the Duplicate from the View menu and then close the image itself?
Also, I once closed the Duplicate itself using the X button, but it closed both the Duplicate and image itself. So again, maybe the View menu should be used??

Re: image stuck min or max, can't use Restore size
It sounds like your Inkscape window is positioned off the viewable area of your monitor. To get it back, whilst the window is in the "restore" state (i.e. not maximised or minimised), right-click the task on the taskbar and select "Move". Then tap any arrow key on your keyboard - this will move the window 1 pixel but also has the effect of making your mouse snap to the window. You can now move your mouse to move the window (without having to hold any mouse buttons). Left-click when you've positioned the window where you want it.
I have this problem all the time on multi-monitor PCs. I'll run a program from my pen drive and position the window on the second monitor. Then when I take my USB to a single-monitor PC and run the program it automatically positions the window off the screen where the second monitor would have been.

Holy cow!
You were right on, microUgly. Any idea how this happened, so I can avoid it in the future?
Weird thing is, it was off the screen to the LEFT! I have had things lost off the right side before, when I changed my screen resolution. But I've never lost anything to the left. Btw, I haven't changed my res recently. I'm just really curious how this might have happened....

Re: image stuck min or max, can't use Restore size
No idea, sorry. It could be a glitch with Inkscape — I do think it's odd that the window position is linked to the file you open.
Re: image stuck min or max, can't use Restore size
Ahh the joys of windows!
Good catch microugly!

Inkscape stores the window size and position in the file (in the sodipodi:namedview element).
But it ought to ignore unreasonable saved positions (and in my tests with Inkscape 0.45 it does). So I'm not sure how the problem brynn was experiencing arose - if this was with a recent development version it should probably be reported as a bug.
There's also the question of how it came to write such a position in the first place. That sounds like another bug.

AH-HA!
I'm using v .44. Knowing that .46 is expected out very soon, and using a dialup connection, I don't want to waste time downloading .45. Can't wait to see .46 -- sounds like many improvements over my .44!
Thanks for everyone's comments. Another problem solved by InkscapeForum!
