How is it going people?
I made some buttons for a web site for my kids. I exported them as png but I get this box around the image.
As I write this I wonder could this be because even though the drop shadow is blurred it is still interpreted as a rectangle?
Here is the image.
I'm still learning so I don't even know enough to explain the problem so the image will have to speak for itself.
Thanks.

Re: rectangle around exported png
Before you export the image, do your best to size the page around the object. I do this by creating a square around my completed drawing and then selecting "Page to selection" in the page details. I then delete the object leaving my drawing on a nicely cropped page.
Then in the export, be sure to export the Page and not just the selection or the drawing. You can do this by clicking the "page" tab on the export window.
What may have happened is you exported the drawning and the blur was outside of its limits. Give this a try and let me know if it worked out for you.

Re: rectangle around exported png
If you choose "Drawing", doesn't the size change to accomodate the blur? I wonder if this is an oversight that should be brought to the attention of the developers.

Re: rectangle around exported png
Perhaps. BUt give it a try, each time I used drawing the blur was butchered. =(
Re: rectangle around exported png
Thank you Darth_Gimp.
At first when I read your instructions I expected to end up with an image with a bit of white page behind it. No white page. Cool.
I saw the page option in the export window before but I am just scratching the surface of inkscape so I let it be.
Thanks again. It worked great.
