[solved] Need help with Paths and Booleans operations

Postby softgrip » Mon Mar 20, 2017 2:05 pm

Hi,

So I'm VERY new to Inkscape, and plan on using it only for a short while to make a logo.

I currently have this,

Image

Which is a black filled circle, with white arcs over the top. It looks exactly how I want it, and I'm almost done.

I want to cut the black circle so that the white bits are transparent. I was expecting to just select everything, and press the "Path > Cut Path" or "Path > Difference", but I'm having no luck. The end results of the various boolean operations are just wrong - either everything is white, or there are pie shaped black slices made of the white arcs, not the black circle (1 or many).

I just want to cut the black circle so that it is multiple pieces instead of 1 piece.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I've been through the "advanced tutorial" and no luck. Also, not too sure what I should be searching for.

Thanks for your time.

You probably need to convert the white arcs from stroked to filled. From the path menu do stroke to path, then select all the white arcs and union into one path then do the difference operation between the black and white paths.
Usually posting or linking to a file is greatly appreciated so we can verify what is there instead of guessing as I just did.
Your mind is what you think it is.
