Inkscape svg to CMYK print files

Postby SheickSouth » Tue Sep 09, 2008 12:02 am

Hi all. First of all this is my first message on this forum and i want to say thank you for Inkscape before I do anything else.

When I create lets say a book cover in Inkscape I can save it as SVG (which I do). but svg is no good for the printing industry. So eventually I have to come up with a pdf in the CMYK colour-space. When I try to save it in Inkscape as a pdf it does not render the bluing correctly. For example a blurred shadow will be solid on the PDF. When I export from inkscape it is only possible as a PNG file which renders the blur correctly but makes everything a RGB image including the fonts.

So my question is how do others get from a Incscape drawing on your screen (that includes blurr) to a print ready file in CMYK?
Any input is most appreciated.

Try Scribus - export as png, import in Scribus and export as pdf
Or try Krita (under Linux)
Or Try the Gimp, with this plugin

Thaks for the links and suggestions. I am still working ont he one with Gimp plugin and colour seperation, but

Expoeting it to a pgn from inkscape gets rid of the fonts. Thus you loos eht acuracy of the embedded fonts on your printout.

Besides importing a grayscale tif produced in Gim 2.4x will still render as a CMYK in the scribus export pdf (scribus 1.3.3.12.

This is exactly what I am strugeling with all afternoon.
