I just installed Inkscape on a new system, and I'm very sorry to see your new Optimum installer. When I install and use a tool, I don't want to be distracted by a minefield of come-ons for products I don't want. I tried to step around the bogus "invitations" to install other software, but evidently the bamboozlement works: somehow I've got a stupid new taskbar on my browser. Now I've got to figure out how to get rid of it -- thanks a lot!
As an open software user and supporter, I love Inkscape. Call me old-fashioned, but imo open software that requires revenue from ads might as well cut to the chase and go into business as commercial software: I fail to see the difference. I'd actually rather pay for a tool if it doesn't subject me to malware like this installer.
Thanks,
Denis

Re: Get rid of Optimum installer
Welcome to the forum
From where did you download Inkscape? It sounds like you got your hands on some rogue malware there. Inkscape does not offer any other products in its installer. Just straight up Inkscape! (Unless it's just been added in the last couple of weeks, which I seriously doubt. Believe me, you would not be the only one complaining, if this were true.)
You should download Inkscape from http://www.inkscape.org. It will redirect you to a Sourceforge url.
If that IS where you downloaded, we should be concerned about Sourceforge (or Inkscape.org) having been hacked!
(I'll investigate as far as I can, but if something has been hacked, someone else will have to fix it )

Re: Get rid of Optimum installer
Boy is my face red. You're right, I downloaded it from something called inkscape.downloadasaurus.com, which apparently makes a racket out of hijacking open source installers, as described above. I tried the installer from sourceforge, and all was well. Apologies for the false alarm and the rant -- I guess I'll just have to make another contribution!
Re: Get rid of Optimum installer
No worries
Actually I'm glad to hear about these nefarious sites. Next time I'll be able to answer more definitively, if anyone else should post about this.
By the way, if you haven't already, you should probably do a full "security sweep", i.e. update all your security programs and run full scans, to get rid of any bugs you might have accidentally installed
