Welcome to InkscapeForum!

I'm not sure if any of us can help you, without some further info from you. For example:

Maybe you could tell us a bit about your skill level with Inkscape? Does this have to be a vector drawing? If not, maybe you'd be better off usng a raster editor. What tutorials have you tried, or what drawing techniques have you tried, which tools. If you're stuck on some aspect in particular, what is it? Can we see a screenshot or SVG file? Will this be purely artwork, printed, uploaded to internet, sent to a cutter? How large is it? What kind of requirements might there be? What style of drawing, i.e. cartoon or photorealistic, or something in between? ETC.

Hi emilyy398.
Like brynn said - the more info we get the easier it will be to get you useful help.
Are you thinking of something like this?

Image
Our - girls!

Depending on your skill level the outline is relatively easy.
As my artistic skills are virtually none-existent I used
what "flamingolady" - (one of the "artsy" types on the forum) would call a "techie" approach.
In the example below I;
- used the function plotter extension to plot three sine curves spaced 120° apart
- combined the curves
- duplicated
- outset and then cut the paths using path difference.
( If you want the shapes to touch - just omit the outset stage.)
- In the end I rotated the curves 90°.
- To get the "taper" - like in the image above - the nodes in the result can be adjusted manually
- or you could use; Modify path - perspective - like I have done here.
Chime back if you need a "beginner cookbook approach".

For drawing "realistic" hair have a look at this tutorial;

My first attempt - not overly realistic I'am afraid!;

Click the diskette icon on the page for download - great example to get ideas from.)

No worries Ragnar. Sometimes people get side-tracked. May show up in a week or 2. I've even seen replies delayed by a few months! We'll be here whenever :D

Actually, somewhere here on the forum, relatively recently, there was a question about drawing a braid. I don't remember much but a simple, yet effective example. No details in memory, but I won't search unless miss emilyy returns (or someone else asks) ;)

Braids certainly can be tricky for the newb!

Ok, I searched. For some reason, it's not found by searching "braid". So that's going to make it almost impossible to find. Is there another word for "braid" that someone might have used? I think there is, but I can't remember it at the moment. (I tried "hair" and "ponytail" with no luck.)

But I do have this mini tutorial on making rope with PAP: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9855&#p36779. Perhaps it could be modified for a braid?

Brynn, Are you sure it was a hair braid? I don't remember that one, but I don't look at every post by any means. I DO remember a very good thread about 'knot's, and another one on 'chain links'. I'd think those two are created very similarly, except they do not taper.
